Monthly diabetes news for healthcare professionals and
others in Berkshire West

  Low Calorie Liquid Diet
A reminder that the BHFT Nutrition and Dietetics Team is still accepting referrals for this exciting new service. A number of patients have already been through it and lost a significant amount of weight, and some of them have effectively managed to reverse their diabetes. Further information and a referral form are available on DXS, by typing “diet” and selecting “low calorie liquid diet for diabetic patients”.
  Paediatric referrals
A reminder that Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust are available for advice and referrals seven days a week between 8am and 8pm.
Their contact telephone number is 0118 322 8922.
  National Diabetes Prevention Programme
The NDPP continues to recruit patients with pre-diabetes, and practices are reminded that the pre-diabetes CES requires that we refer all appropriate patients to this scheme. There is a very positive case study on the Preventing Diabetes website featuring a local patient.

There is also a new free e-Learning module on the RCGP learning platform aimed at GPs, nurses other practice staff. It is CPD-accredited and is free to access. It includes some basics on motivational interviewing, which clinicians may find useful.
Type 2 Diabetes Dietary Resource Pack

The Thames Valley Strategic Clinical Network has developed a resource pack for primary care, containing useful resources and evidence-based information.  Clinicians should consider using it when providing dietary advice to patients.
  Diabetes Prevention Week
A reminder that Diabetes Prevention Week starts on Monday 20th April. Practices can order a free toolkit and other resources from the Diabetes UK website.
